Goals for Student Teaching

Following are the goals that I wrote, developed and revised during my student teaching process:

           1)  To continue exploring new material and new approaches toward topics to keep myself and the students interested and refreshed in English.
            2)  To begin and remain firm with students and myself in order to maintain an organized and productive classroom, free of preventable distractions.  Yet still maintain a comfortable and trustworthy environment.
            3)  To always inform myself and the students why we are studying the topic at hand and why it is important on a micro and macro level, as well as how it relates to other subjects.
            4)  To allow education to expand and explore my own thoughts, ideas, and beliefs about all subjects, as well as teach students how education can do the same for them.
            5)  To guide students along a path of learning that is challenging, vigorous, entertaining, enlightening, and memorable.
            6)  To constantly reflect upon the class lessons and consider what went well and what could be improved next time in order to keep a flexible and progressive classroom.
            7)  To listen to my students and what they need in order to succeed.
            8)  To challenge students across the spectrum with content, ideas, activities, and expectations.
            9)  To become a member and participant of faculty and staff meetings such as RTI, OPI, and SWAT.
            10) To work with my cooperating teacher to maintain a smooth transition into and out of the classroom, scaffolding my involvement with the classes.
            11)  To work with my cooperating teacher and university supervisor to create meaningful lessons, productive feedback, and a collaborative exchange of ideas.
            12)  To provide effective, efficient, and timely feedback on assignments and classroom activities.
            13)  To engage students using a variety of discussion formats, activities and projects, and texts.
            14)  To embrace and implement new and potentially unfamiliar technology into the classroom in order to maintain a relevant 21st century atmosphere.
            15)  To facilitate a classroom that considers the limitations of students’ schedules: especially students who miss class for school-sponsored extra-curricular activities.
            16)  To research new and different information than I am familiar with, with which to supplement lesson plans, in an attempt to broaden my own ideas and those of my students.
            17)  To integrate students into the organization and planning of the lessons and activities to keep them accountable, responsible, and self-motivated.
            18)  To investigate successful and varied ways to implement Indian Education for All into the classroom.
            19)  To create lesson units unique and different from each other, while still reinforcing integral reading and writing skills.
            20)  To greet each class and activity with enthusiasm and remain positive throughout each class and activity to serve as a positive role model for students.

            21)  To interact with students outside of the classroom at their extra-curricular activities to reinforce the teacher-student relationship.
